Traditional Chinese Cultural Workshop has been successfully held for Foreign Teachers in BCU by International Affairs Office

On Nov 28th, the International Affairs Office once more held the traditional Chinese cultural workshop for the foreign teachers working in BCU. This workshop focused on the traditional Chinese calligraphy, and especially concentrated on the writing style of official script. The International Affairs Office had carefully prepared brushes, rice paper, ink, ink plates, and felt for the foreign teachers to use.

In addition, the International Affairs Office had invited two students from Translation major of the School of Foreign Studies in BCU, who have learnt calligraphy for more than 10 years and have been equipped with quite professional calligraphy writing skills, to demonstrate and guide the foreign teachers to practice. They displayed the sitting position, the posture of holding a brush, and the writing features of official script in details. With the guidance, our foreign teachers patiently practiced this writing for nearly one hour and then successfully accomplished their piece of calligraphy work in the end, winning the praise from all teachers and students. The foreign teachers expressed their enhanced understanding on and interest in the Chinese calligraphy through this activity. David, one of our foreign teachers, said that thanks to this activity, he would take time to practice calligraphy after work to dig out more about this amazing culture.

The International Affairs Office intends to engage foreign teachers into the Traditional Chinese Culture in a deeper and closer manner by holding this kind of cultural workshop. Meanwhile, these activities encourage more students with traditional cultural talents to display their specialties and improve their language proficiency, as well as help foreign teachers to be more involved in the harmonious working atmosphere in BCU.
